Early life



Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus

Elizabeth Choy, Choy-Yong Su-Moi,was born on the 29 December 1910 in Kudat,Sabah(British North Borneo).Elizabeth acquired Kadazan as her first language due to the fact that she was cared for by a Kadazan nanny.She attended St Monica’s School,an Anglican missionary boarding school in Sandakan, for her high school education.The teachers there could not pronounce her Chinese name,so she acquired the English name Elizabeth.Her higher education was done there from 1921 to1929.In December 1929,she came to Singapore to further her studies at the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus at Victoria Street.She performed well not only academically but also character-wise,she achieved the Prize of Honor in her first year of school in December 1930.She also received the award for the most outstanding student.
